Space-conscious storage choices for an inflatable or hard SUP in a flat, including drying, access and fixing considerations. Check the instructions for your exact SUP model; guidance differs between makers.
Work through the practical choices
Measure the full route from the entrance to the intended storage area, including doors, stairs and turns. For an inflatable, reserve a place to rinse, unfold and dry it before packing. Red advises rinsing the board and kit and letting everything dry completely. Check the instructions for your exact SUP model; guidance differs between makers.
A hard board needs a long clear footprint and enough room to lift it safely. A wall rack may work only if the rack suits the board and the wall can take its load. In rented accommodation, ask before drilling; keep corridors, doors and communal routes clear. Avoid leaning a board where it can slide or block an exit.

Make the drying stage part of the plan
The cupboard is the final location, not necessarily the place where wet kit becomes ready for storage. Decide where you can inspect and dry the board without blocking a communal entrance or damaging flooring. Keep a washable tray or towel for handling wet equipment, then check the kit again before closing the bag.
For a rented flat, establish whether any fixing is permitted before selecting a rack. A freestanding option still needs a known footprint, stability and clear access. Measure door openings and packed-bag handles; a nominal cupboard dimension can conceal a much narrower usable opening.
